Pigment spots

Pigment spots such as age spots or freckles are a common request in consultations. Laser and DPL act on the pigment and lighten it visibly. The result is a more even complexion.

Technologies

Picosecond laser

Ultra-short pulses in the picosecond range break pigment into very fine particles. The body clears them through its metabolism, with low thermal load.

Q-switch Nd:YAG

High-energy pulses at 1064 and 532 nm are absorbed by the pigment and break it up. The fragments are removed via the lymphatic system.

DPL / IPL

Narrow-band filtered light is preferentially absorbed by melanin. Superficial pigment spots darken briefly and then fade.

Typical course in the studio

Depending on the depth and type of pigment, one or more sessions a few weeks apart are usual. Consistent sun protection between sessions is important. Unclear or changing spots should be checked by a doctor before any treatment.

In Germany, treating pigmented lesions with laser, IPL or radiofrequency is reserved for physicians under the NiSV. NiSV →

Questions from practice

Picosecond or Q-switch?

Both act on pigment. The picosecond laser works with shorter pulses and less heat. The Q-switch is a proven, more affordable entry option.

Which spots should I not treat?

Spots that look unclear, change or are new should first be seen by a dermatologist. This protects your clients and your studio.

What are the legal rules in Germany?

For cosmetic use of laser and IPL, the NiSV requires a certificate of competence (Fachkundenachweis). We are happy to tell you more.
