Pulse duration: the key difference
Q-Switch lasers work with pulses in the nanosecond range, picosecond lasers with pulses around a thousand times shorter. Shorter pulses break pigment into finer particles and generate less heat in the surrounding tissue. Q-Switch systems are the proven and robust entry point.
Wavelengths and handpieces
1064 nm reaches dark pigment at depth, 532 nm suits red and lighter shades near the surface. Additional handpieces such as Honeycomb or Skin Rejuvenation extend the range to skin toning.
Physician reservation under the NiSV
In Germany, removing tattoos and permanent make-up and treating pigmented lesions with a laser are reserved for licensed physicians with relevant training. Both devices are therefore aimed at physician-led clinics.
Checklist before you buy
- Are treatments covered by a physician?
- Pulse duration: picoseconds or nanoseconds?
- Which wavelengths and handpieces are included?
- How are spot and energy adjusted?
- Which laser safety goggles are needed for 1064 and 532 nm?
Frequently asked questions
Is a picosecond laser better than a Q-Switch?
Picosecond lasers break pigment more finely and with less heat. Q-Switch lasers are proven and robust. The right device depends on your treatment focus.
May beauty studios remove tattoos with a laser?
Not in Germany. Since 31 December 2020 laser tattoo removal has been reserved for physicians under the NiSV.
Which wavelengths do the Super Picosecond and Q-Switch use?
Both devices work at 1064 and 532 nm.
