Buying a radiofrequency device: which RF suits you?

Radiofrequency is one of the most versatile methods for firmer-looking skin on face and body. But RF is not just RF: frequency, cooling and type of application make the difference.

High frequency with cooling: Cold CRF

20 MHz devices such as Cold CRF and Ultra Tone work in the upper skin layers while cooling the surface. This makes treatments comfortable, especially on the face, neck and eye area. They suit studios that want to offer tightening without downtime.

448 kHz: depth on the body

With 448 kHz in CAP and RES mode the energy reaches deeper tissue layers. Systems such as Legenda are used mainly for body treatments and combine well with manual techniques.

Microneedling RF and the rules

Microneedling RF combines fine needles with radiofrequency and penetrates the epidermis. Under section 6 NiSV such treatments are reserved for physicians. For all RF devices, notification and certified expertise are mandatory.

Checklist before you buy

  1. Which frequency and depth do you need?
  2. Is there active cooling of the skin surface?
  3. Which handpieces for face, eyes and body are included?
  4. Does it penetrate the skin? Then a physician is required.
  5. Do you hold NiSV certified expertise?

Frequently asked questions

What is Cold CRF?

Cold CRF is 20 MHz radiofrequency with simultaneous contact cooling. The heat works in the skin while the surface stays cool.

May a beauty studio offer microneedling RF?

Not in Germany. Radiofrequency treatments that penetrate the epidermis are reserved for physicians under section 6 NiSV.

What is the difference between CAP and RES?

CAP works capacitively with an insulated electrode and closer to the surface, RES works resistively with direct contact and deeper effect.
